Philadelphia Orchestra – Open Reading Session Conducted by John Adams

The Philadelphia Orchestra, led by John Adams, will be doing a reading of my newly commissioned work for them, Jeder Baum spricht. The reading is open to public, and free to attend. It will also feature newly commissioned works by composers Carlos Simon, and Jessica Hunt. I am honoured to be joining my dear friends at the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music as a veteran composer fellow this year. I will be attending two residencies in Boonville, California, and Gill, Massachusetts in 2019, to develop a new piece for violist Melissa Reardon and cellist Raman Ramakrishnan. The residency in Gill, Massachusetts will take place at the beautiful Antenna Cloud Farm,  culminating in the world premiere of my piece for Raman and Melissa.

Michi Wiancko will also be performing on violin. The program features music of SMTD Prof. Roshanne Etezady, Lisa Nehar, Iman Habibi, Jeremy Howell, and Chen Yi. Nordic Landscapes for solo violin will be performed at Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 29th, 2020 (6:30pm) at part of 6:30 concert series, an event hosted by A Very Small Consortium, University of Wisconsin Green Bay (UWGB), and Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. The Philadelphia Orchestra has commissioned me to write a piece in dialogue with Beethoven Symphonies nos. 5 and 6, in celebration of Beethoven's 250th Birthday anniversary. Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin will lead the orchestra in three performances of my piece, Jeder Baum spricht, on March 12th, March 14th, and March 15th in Philadelphia's Verizon Hall. This commission was made possible through a collaboration between The Philadelphia Orchestra and Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music.

This Event is postponed due to COVID-19 Vancouver Cantata Singers, led by Paula Kremer, will be presenting Iman Habibi's Colour of Freedom as part of their The Peaceable Kingdom: Songs of Earth program on April 18th, 2020. Amir Haghighi will sing the solo part with the choir. The concert will also include music by Randall Thompson and Veljo Tormis.
