Spatial Poetics IX – Nothing is Free
Location: Vivo Media Arts Centre – 1965 Main Street
Time: Starting at 7:30pm multiple performances of the work will be presented.
Iman Habibi will be joining flautist Mark Mcgregor, and vocalist Michael Mori in a 15-minute dramatic/theatrical work that features elements of both Japanese and Canadian art forms. This interdisciplinary project will partly draw its inspirations from certain elements of Japanese theatrical traditions such as Kabuki and Noh.
Music commissioned by Michael Mori and the Powell Street Festival.

Solar Seethe will be premiered at The Atlantic Music Festival, with Sheridan Seyfriend as Conductor, Elise Shope on Flute, Alice Wang on Clarinet, Clement Luu on Violin; Jonah Kim on Cello, Bill Shaltis on percussion, and Mei-Hsuan Huang on piano.

Aug. 23 – Sep. 3: Toronto, ON
Iman will be participating in Tapestry New Opera’s composer-librettist’s Lib-Lab. He will be working alongside composers Norbert Palej, Anna Höstman, and Gareth Williams, and Librettists Charles Hayter, David Brock, Michael Pollard, and Maja Ardal. Several performances will take place as part of the workshop by Tapestry’s performing artists Kimberly Barber (mezzo Soprano), Keith Klassen (tenor), Peter McGillivray (baritone), Carla Huhtanen and Christopher Foley (piano).

First Round of the Northwest Piano Ensemble Competition

Piano Pinnacle (Pianists Iman Habibi and Deborah Grimmett) will be performing a few piano duo works including music by Mozart, Arensky, and Louie, at the first round of the 2010 Northwest Piano Ensemble Competition.

Final Round of the Northwest Piano Ensemble Competition
Location: Norman Rothstein Theater
Time: 8pm
Piano Pinnacle (Pianists Iman Habibi and Deborah Grimmett) advanced to the final round of the Northwest Piano Ensemble Competition, and will be performing a few piano duo works including music by Rachmaninoff’s Russian Rhapsody, and Fujiwara’s Metamorphosis IV (final movement).

Radio Broadcast of Colour of Freedom

CBC Radio one plays a snippet of “Colour of Freedom,” a newly commissioned work by Iman Habibi, set to poetry by Marina Nemat, and featuring Persian soloist Amir Haghighi. The piece will be featured on North by Norhtwest, with Sheryl Mackay as host.
