The 2022-2023 season is a celebration of the Fry Street Quartet’s twenty years as quartet-in-residence at Utah State University. The opening program in the 20th anniversary season features a recent work by Iranian-Canadian composer Iman Habibi, as well as the ninth quartet of Shostakovich. Habibi’s Beloved of the Sky takes its inspiration from iconic Canadian painter Emily Carr, and each short movement pays tribute to one of her individual works. The program closes with the sumptuous piano quintet of Nikolai Medtner, featuring USU Assistant Professor of Piano, Cahill Smith.

Sustainable Quartet – Concerts on the Farm, Vancouver, BC

On Saturday, August 29th at 6pm, The Emily Carr String Quartet and pianist Annie Yim will present a concert at Inner City Farms in Vancouver, BC, featuring Iman Habibi’s Beloved of the Sky, as well as Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 135 in F major, and Joaquín Turina’s The Prayer of the Bullfighter.
Written for and dedicated to the Emily Carr String Quartet, Habibi’s Beloved of the Sky is a multi-movement piece that takes its inspiration from several of Emily Carr’s paintings, including Scorned by Timber, Beloved of the Sky.

Concerts on the Farm is a new summer festival of open-air concerts over two days on an organic farm in the idyllic Southlands in Vancouver, featuring live hour-long performances by guest musicians.
This Festival is inspired by the joy of summer harvest and sustainable farming at Inner City Farms. At a time when the coronavirus pandemic has separated us and our connections have become virtual, Concerts on the Farm brings together the essentials that awaken our senses: the sights and sounds of a bountiful green farm and live classical music.
Safety of the audience, the performers and the volunteers will be a priority, with social distancing standards maintained and appropriate sanitation facilities provided. See our complete COVID-19 safety protocol below.
Please arrive 30 minutes before concert start time to enjoy a tour of the farm. Seating will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own blanket for open seating on the grass. There is free on-street parking in the area. Please note that tickets are non-refundable and the Festival will take place rain or shine.
