23DegreeTheatre – Expectations – Featuring Pursuit and Opposites Attract

23DegreeTheatre will be presenting two of my short operas, Pursuit (libretto by Jessica Murphy), and Opposites Attract (libretto by Phoebe Tsang). There will be three performances, all at La Sala Rossa (4848 St Laurent Blvd, Montreal):

Following their sold-out exploration of identity through contemporary opera, 23DegreeTheatre is presenting a night of contemporary opera promoting critical thought and self-awareness. The programme challenges your expectations of opera, how the stories unfold in your mind, what you think is right (theatrically, morally, and socially), how you think about social issues, and especially, questions how you think the operas should end!

Jacqueline Woodley Tapestry Opera

Tapestry Opera Songbook IX Features Pursuit

Tapestry Opera will be presenting its Songbook IX on March 29th and 30th, 2019 at the Ernest Balmer Studio in the Historic Distillery District.

The program will include Iman Habibi’s short opera, Pursuit, which was written as part of Tapestry Opera’s composer-librettist program in 2016, and will feature some of Canada’s finest emerging musicians under the mentorship of pianist Andrea Grant, and soprano Jacqueline Woodley.

Tickets are $25. There will be three performances:

Tapestry Opera Briefs

Tapestry Opera – Four Performances of Opera Briefs: Winter Shorts

Tapestry Opera will present four performances of Opera Briefs, which will include several of the short operas I composed as part of their 2016 composer-librettist program.

All four performances will take place at the Dancemakers Studio, in the historic distillery district (studio 301 – 15 Case Good Lane)

Tapestry Opera LibLab 2016

Iman Habibi will be joining composers Afarin Mansouri, Norbert Palej, and Kit van Soden, as well as librettists Marcia Johnson, Bobby Theodore, Jessica Murphy Moo, and Phoebe Tsang for a 10-day creative workshop in Toronto, that will lead to the creation of 4 short opera scenes. There will be multiple performances, as well as a final performance on August 10th, at 5pm.

Canticum Novum Performs The Call of the Light

The Call of the Light (2016) is a short operatic scene composed as part of Tapestry Opera’s LibLab workshop to libretto by Bobby Theodore. It is based on the true story of Denis Lortie‘s attack on the National Assembly of Quebec Building, during which he killed three of the Quebec government employees and injured 13 others.

In this scene, Denis Lortie sings to an empty hall, after having shot three people to death.
