Vancouver Bach Choir, led by Cathrie Yuen, Performs Habibi’s Marble of the West

The VBFC Symphonic choir is delighted to perform Christopher Tin’s The Lost Birds on November 14 at 7:30pm. Join us at St. Andrew’s Wesley United to take advantage of this opportunity to experience Grammy Award-winning The Lost Birds, a poignant choral tribute to extinct bird species and the fragile beauty of our natural world. Featuring texts by celebrated nature writers and poets including Emily Dickinson, Christina Rossetti, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and others. This concert will also feature powerful works by celebrated composers Iman Habibi and Andrew Balfour.

RENEWAL | Victoria Choral Society with Members of the Victoria Symphony Led by Brian Wismath Perform Habibi’s Marble of the West

Victoria Choral Society and members of the Victoria Symphony will perform a newly commissioned arrangement of Habibi’s Marble of the West for choir and orchestra.

Description:
Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Op. 45

We close the season with Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, joined by soloists Jennifer Turner (soprano) and Nathan McDonald (baritone). This concert, themed Renewal, will also feature a recently composed work, Marble of the West, by Iranian-Canadian composer and pianist Iman Habibi, addressing the impact of environmental change—a powerful pairing to end the season.

Victoria Conservatory of Music - Earth Song: Choral Summer Intensive Final Performance

The final Choral Summer Intensive performance features guest artists, the Emily Carr String Quartet, and will include a newly commissioned work by Iranian-Canadian composer Iman Habibi, entitled Marble of the West, exploring the impact of deforestation on bird migration patterns. The program also includes the Canadian premiere of The Brontë Suite by Irish composer Libby Croad. Additional works on the program include Ubi Caritas by Maurice Duruflé, Dark & Luminous Night by Ola Gjeilo, Hear My Prayer by Felix Mendelssohn, Libertango by Astor Piazzolla, and Earth Song by Frank Ticheli.
