Pianist Charlotte Giraudeau will be performing Habibi’s piano sonata, Voyage, at the finals of the ARMTA (Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association) competition.

Music at McQuiston Presents Deborah Grimmett’s Piano Recital in Belfast, Northern Ireland

On Sunday, August 19, 2018, Deborah Grimmett will be presenting a full solo piano recital at McQuiston Memorial Presbyterian Church in Belfast. The repertoire includes works my 2013 Piano Sonata, Voyage, as well as works by Brahms, Debussy, Respighi, and Rhoda Coghill.

Described as “electric and absolutely breathtaking,” (CiTR radio), and “a true tour de force” (Musetta Stone), pianist Deborah Grimmett’s performances have been heard throughout North America and Europe in major concert halls such as the Orpheum Theater, and the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (Canada), Auditorium Santa Croce (Italy), Norges Musikkhøgskole (Norway), Espace Carpeaux (France), Ganz Hall, and Sherman Clay Steinway Hall (US). She has appeared in concert with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, Ann Arbor Camerata, Dexter Orchestra, and NOVO Ensemble, among others. Ms. Grimmetts performances and interviews have been broadcast on CiTR, Classic 107, and South Carolina Public radios. She is well-known for her collaborations with composer-pianist Iman Habibi. In 2010, the couple formed a piano duo, Piano Pinnacle, which has won several international prizes including the First Prize at the United States International Duo Piano Competition, and the Second Prize and Audience Choice Awards at Northwest International Piano Ensemble Competition.

Voyage (Piano Sonata) Goes on Tour with Deborah Grimmett

My wonderful wife and piano duo partner, Deborah Grimmett, has been touring Canada and UK, performing my Piano Sonata, Voyage, alongside works by Brahms, Debussy, Rhoda Coghill, Ligeti, and Respighi.

Voyage is a 13-minute solo piano work commissioned by the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, BC in 2012. It was premiered by myself in 2013 at the opening of Safar, a temporary exhibition at the Museum of Anthropology.

I had the pleasure of doing a live radio interview with Simeon Rusnak on Classic 107 in Winnipeg, in which I spoke about my collaborations with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and their performance of my composition, The Promised Hand. I also spoke about Deborah Grimmett‘s solo piano recital in Winnipeg, which included my Piano Sonata (Voyage), commissioned in 2013 by The Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver for the opening of their exhibition, Safar.
